It was 1948, the war had just ended, and James Garfinkle set out to fulfill his life’s ambition—to establish a law firm in the business district of Toronto. He worked hard and expanded his practice, but his vision for the firm was to keep it a firm rather than build it into an empire. Quality, in Mr. Garfinkle’s eyes, was more important than quantity.

James Garfinkle has passed on, but we have honoured his memory by keeping Garfinkle, Biderman true to his vision. Today, we’re known as a ‘lawyer’s’ law firm—motivated by the opportunity to serve our client, the challenges of the file, our familiarity with the law, and appreciation of our profession.
